Mountain Goat

Rounding a bend on the Highline Trail we met a Mountain Goat. Content, or more interested, in munching the flora it raised its' head, looked us over, and went back to feeding. They are not really goats but, according to a note on the National Geographic map of the park, are related to the Old World antelope. This was my first encounter with a large animal in the park and was surprised it didn't bolt even with us a few feet away. After the 30 of us passed it was still by the side of the trail grazing.
