Great Room, Many Glacier Lodge

Many Glacier and Lake McDonald Lodges were built in the early 1900's by the Great Northern Railroad to entice passengers to ride its' trains. They succeeded. While a bit worse for wear these log buildings are still magnificent. Taken from the second floor balcony that encircles the main floor reception area this photo shows the original fireplace. It's not hard to imagine men and women dressed in the formal "mountaineering" clothes of the era surrounding the fire swapping tales of the days adventures.
