Glade Below Carthew Pass

Descending from Carthew Pass on the Alderson trail we passed through areas of lush vegetation, albeit stunted by the short growing season and sculpted by the strong prevailing winds. Under two feet tall, small pines 25 years old are common. These depressions capture a lot of snow that, upon melting, supports these mini-forests.

The people? Women to the left and men to the right.
