Cute goes a long way including into this photo diary. Here's a sampling of the menagerie we accumulated along the way. Clockwise from top-left, Hoary marmot, Columbian Ground squirrel, Big Horn sheep and Mountain goat kid.
Unlike our eastern woodchucks these marmots were inquisitive. Jo Anne had one climb her leg intending to rummage through her pack. This one kept sticking its' tongue out at me. The squirrels are at the bottom of the food chain, every predators favorite snack. The breed prolifically and are ubiquitous. This one's not being stepped on but is looking for food. Watch your pack! The BigHorns' regally kept their distance, more tolerating than accepting us. The kid is one of a pair who, with their mothers, we saw coming up from Hidden Lake. They playfully butted heads and gamboled as we stood a few feet away.
